Pro Cycling Manager 26 Patch 7 adds more freedom to career planning

Cyanide has released Patch 7 for Pro Cycling Manager 26 in Open Beta on Steam, and the update focuses on giving experienced players more control over career planning. The studio describes it as a first step toward easing some of the automation introduced in the game’s redesigned planning system.

In its announcement, Cyanide said the new system was built to better connect different planning elements, improve automation, make AI teams’ decisions more relevant, and make the feature easier for new players to understand. The studio also acknowledged that some of those changes went too far for long-time players, including people with “hundreds or even thousands of hours of playtime.”

Planning changes reach Steam open beta

The main change in Patch 7 is that experienced players can now modify their planning before confirming the calendar. That gives managers more room to shape rider programmes before the season setup is locked in, rather than waiting until the calendar has already been finalised.

Cyanide also said it has adjusted and improved the calculation of target fitness periods in the Planner. That change sits alongside the broader goal of letting players organise their riders’ programmes with less restriction during the early season-planning phase.

The studio framed the update as a response to feedback from the community. It said player comments helped it understand where the new planning system had become too restrictive, and that Patch 7 starts to address those concerns without discarding the structure added this year.

“Patch 7 is a first step towards addressing them, giving you more freedom to organise your riders’ programmes.”

Rider programmes and sponsor objectives move earlier

The biggest practical difference is the timing of rider planning and sponsor objectives. Before Patch 7, rider programmes could only be modified after the team calendar had been locked, while sponsor race objectives could only be changed on 4 January, once the calendar had closed.

That changes with the open beta update. From 2 January, managers can modify riders’ programmes while adding or removing races from the team calendar. Sponsor race objectives can now be changed between 2 and 4 January, which gives players more room to align those objectives with the rider schedule they want to build.

Cyanide also listed several changes to the season-planning timetable:

  • Fitness validation remains until 2 January.
  • Season programme calculated and editable: now 2 January.
  • Rider programmes calculated and editable: now 2 January.
  • Cya World Tour calendar request deadline remains 2 January, with responses on 3 January.
  • Other races in the calendar now use staggered deadlines across the year.

Those deadlines for other races are now split into four periods. January to March uses a 3 January deadline, April and May use 15 March, June and July use 15 May, and August to October use 15 July.

Manual planning keeps the responsibility with the player

Patch 7 also spells out what happens if players remove the automatically generated planning elements and choose to handle everything manually. Cyanide said the assistant will not override those choices or complete the planning on the player’s behalf.

The studio said it would like to offer a semi-manual approach in the future, where players could set some riders or races themselves and then let the assistant fill in the rest. That idea is not part of the current PCM 26 patch cycle, but Cyanide said it is still under consideration.

“We are keeping this possibility in mind for the future.”

The update is available now in Steam Open Beta, and Cyanide is asking players to report bugs or share suggestions on the game’s Discord server. The studio closed its note by thanking managers for their continued feedback and support as it keeps working on PCM 26’s planning systems.

is Patch 7 actually worth jumping into the open beta for, or is this just moving the same annoying calendar stuff around? the timing change sounds nicer, but i’m wondering if it really fixes the planning headache

if you hate menus, probably no. they still want you in Steam beta and on Discord, so it sounds like a half fix with extra homework.

2 January instead of waiting until 4 January for sponsor objectives is actually a big deal for career mode players. i hate when a sim gives you control, then hides the real choices behind some weird locked date. if the planner lets experienced managers adjust rider programmes before the calendar is confirmed, that is the right direction. but i wonder if the AI teams and target fitness periods still feel too automated for long saves. anybody tested whether the staggered deadlines make the season planning less of a chore or just more calendar juggling?

maybe a bit of both. sounds like they moved the annoying lockout earlier, so the pain is still there, just at a better time lol

the bit about manual planning not being overridden is the only part i trust. if i remove the auto stuff, leave my chaos alone please, Cyanide.

probably means the assistant won’t touch it, but i’d still expect some weird edge case to mess up a calendar if you go fully manual
