Football Manager 27 gets a five-day free Launch Preview on PC and Mac

Sports Interactive has announced that Football Manager 27 will be free to play on PC and Mac from 29 October to 3 November. The FM27 Launch Preview starts at 6pm GMT on October 29 and will be available for five days on Steam, Epic, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, ahead of the full launch on 10 November.

There is no sign-up step attached to the free period. Players can download the game from their preferred platform and start a save straight away, with all game modes available. Sports Interactive says games started during the free window can be carried into the paid Launch Preview and then into the full game without restarting.

How the FM27 Launch Preview works

The studio says the Launch Preview replaces the Beta or Advanced Access label used previously. It is meant to be closer in quality and finality to launch than earlier early-access builds, even though the version still sits ahead of the full release.

Sports Interactive says the build includes a clearer interface, an enhanced match engine and new layers of control on both the training ground and the touchline. Those new controls come through Tactical Tweaks and Tactical Effectiveness, two systems the studio says deepen immersion and give players more to discover from the start of a career.

The announcement also points players to the game’s Features page for more detail on the new additions. The Launch Preview FAQ says the free-play build is near-final and that there is no limit to the time or progress players can log during the period.

Sports Interactive adds that the Launch Preview version is still under approval by rights holders and may contain data that does not yet accurately reflect real-world information. Some club and player assets may also be absent in this version.

Pre-purchase opens with a 10% discount

The free-play window arrives alongside the opening of FM27 pre-purchases. Sports Interactive says players who buy through a SEGA-approved digital retailer will get 10% off the game’s price of £49.99/€59.99/$59.99.

That offer is available on Steam, Epic and the Microsoft Store. The studio says the paid Launch Preview begins when the free period ends at 6pm GMT on 3 November and runs until the full launch on 10 November. Players who subscribe through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass can access the Launch Preview for the duration of their subscription, while the announcement notes that Launch Preview is only available for those two Game Pass tiers.

Pre-purchasing for FM27 Console will not be available, although players can wishlist it from 29 October. Sports Interactive also says those who pre-purchase on PC through a SEGA-approved digital retailer will keep the paid Launch Preview access ahead of launch.

Save progress carries through to launch

The clearest practical detail in the announcement is save continuity. Sports Interactive says any saves created in FM27 before launch can continue into the paid Launch Preview and then into the full game. That applies to saves begun during the free period as well, so a career started on 29 October can keep running through the early-access window and into release day.

The studio also says FM27 will offer an option on the start screen to carry over save progress from the previous two titles, FM24 and FM26. To make that work, the relevant save data must be present on the PC or in the platform account’s cloud save storage.

Sports Interactive frames the free period as a way to let players experience this year’s game before deciding whether to buy. The announcement says the studio wanted to show more of FM27 before opening pre-orders and asking players to commit, and that the free-play period is part of its effort to rebuild player trust and confidence.

That puts the free Launch Preview in a different place from a standard demo. It is the same near-final build that will carry into paid early access, with every mode open and progress preserved, so the first five days function as the opening stretch of the full FM27 cycle rather than a cut-down sample.
