Rematch season 6 begins October 23 with Contracts, new comms and Netcode 2.0 beta
Sloclap has set Rematch season 6 for October 23, and the developer’s latest blog breaks down the rollout, the new Player Contracts system, extra communication tools and a reshuffled roadmap for the football game’s next updates.
The post also looks back at season 5, which included the Blue Lock collaboration, and explains why season 6 is arriving with only a modest set of gameplay tweaks while Netcode 2.0 is tested on its own. That work has already started on Steam through the Rematch Beta Test app, with the beta live since October 14 and tentatively planned to run until mid-November.
Season 6 changes arrive in stages on October 23
Sloclap laid out a four-step changeover for the season switch. At 08:00 UTC, the S6.0 patch goes live. The store updates at 10:00 UTC, then season 5 ends at 12:00 UTC, when ranked modes are disabled and season 5 ranked rewards are distributed to all players. Season 6 starts at 14:00 UTC, when ranked modes are re-enabled.
That schedule gives the current season a clean end and leaves a short window between the patch, the store refresh and the return of ranked play. Sloclap said the S6.0 notes will be published before the patch goes live, so the final version of the balance changes should be visible before the season flips over.
Season 6 is also being kept relatively light on gameplay adjustments because Netcode 2.0 is being tested at the same time. The studio said stacking too many new gameplay changes on top of it would make it harder to tell what is causing what, both for players and for the developers. A full explanation of Netcode 2.0 is available in a separate dev blog, but the core idea is a rework of how the server handles hits such as tackles, dives, catches and ball controls, and how it communicates with the client.
Contracts replace the old Player Level progression
The biggest feature in season 6 is Player Contracts, which replace the old Player Level system. Sloclap said the new setup will still gate Ranked access, but it will also offer progressive rewards and profile customisation options that can be chosen depending on how someone plays.
To queue for Ranked, players will need the Amateur Contract. Anyone who was already Player Level 5 or higher will begin season 6 with that contract unlocked. Sloclap also said legacy rewards, including caps and Player Profile elements, will be awarded based on old Player Level, so time spent in Rematch carries over into the new system.
The studio said Player Contracts will roll out at the same time as the S6.0 patch or shortly after, and that it will lock in the old Player Level around that point. That makes the final stretch before October 23 the last chance to push the old level as far as possible. Sloclap said it already has ideas for future improvements to the system, and is asking for feedback once it is live. Full details are in a separate Player Contracts dev blog. For players who want a reminder of how the game reached this point, our earlier Rematch season 6 coverage covers the same update from a different angle.
Quick Chat adds compliments, apologies and tactics
Season 6 also expands communication in a way that should be immediately visible in matches. Quick Chat now has three groups of preset lines: Compliments, Apologies and Tactical. The new entries are “Thanks!”, “Good job!” and “We got this!” under Compliments; “Nice try!”, “Sorry!” and “No problem!” under Apologies; and “Unmarked!”, “Behind you!” and “Get back!” under Tactical.
This becomes the new default Quick Chat layout, although players can switch back to the old interface in the settings. Sloclap said every line can be remapped on both keyboard and controller, and that all of them are voiced in every supported audio language.
There is also a new set of end-of-match messages. On the results screen, players can now send “GG!”, “Team up!” or “Thanks!”, and their team will see it. Voice chat changes too: Push to Talk is now the default, with other voice chat options still available in the settings.
Legends League and the volley rework slip into later seasons
Sloclap also used the blog to shift two items on its 2026 roadmap. Legends League, which had been planned for season 6, is now moving to season 7, alongside matchmaking improvements. The mode will feature a top 500 leaderboard per region, with changes to RP attribution at the top of the ladder, especially in Elite rank.
The Volley & Hit Contacts System rework has moved further back, from season 7 to season 8. Sloclap said Netcode changes set the groundwork for the rest of the gameplay, and that once the new network system is stable it will finalise the volley and hit contacts work, with close volley encounters becoming more granular and challenging.
The studio said it will share a full 2027 roadmap later this year. Season 6, meanwhile, brings Rematch back to its regular release rhythm after the Blue Lock event, and the developer closed the post by thanking players for their patience, feedback and passion for the game.

Anyone know if the Amateur Contract only gates ranked, or does it also lock other stuff behind it? If it keeps the old reward carryover too, that sounds less annoying than the old player level grind.
Ranked only, from what I read
nah, classic grind bait
